Today it is one of the country’s most promising firms, with offices in both New York and Washington DC. Tamara Magel Home, Inc. strives to impact the world through beautiful design, while preserving the utmost respect for the environment, women and developing nations. As a designer, Tamara has become renowned for using a delicate hand and skilled eye to balance texture, color and material. Armed with a business background, Tamara left a successful consulting career in the 1990s, during which she worked for “Big Six” firms PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte & Touche, to pursue interior design. After studying at the Corcoran School of Art, she worked for two reputable companies, Design Foundry and the Washington Design Center, where her talent attracted the attention of top DC designers like Mary Douglas Drysdale. As Mary’s Senior Project Manager, Tamara’s rich sensibility and professionalism thrived. From there, she went on to collaborate with other designers and companies (including Ralph Lauren, where she was Home Furnishings Manager) whose sleek contemporary styles both mirrored and enhanced her own aesthetic. It was this unique aesthetic that enabled her to launch Tamara Magel Home, Inc. in 2000. Today she is known for her warm, dramatic, often masculine rooms, which mix textures like cashmere and velvet with materials like wood, metal and stone. Every design decision Tamara makes is infused by her inimitable aura and her utmost respect for the environment (evidenced by her ardent use of non-toxic paints and finshes). Thanks to a devoted portfolio of clients and a strong business sense, Tamara has forged long-term relationships with some of the country’s best architects, contractors, upholsterers and manufacturers. Today her interior design firm is a one-stop resource for her loyal, upscale clients, who value her ability to see the promise in every room. And with the creation of the Tamara Magel Home product line – rugs, natural floorings, upholstered furniture, lighting, accessories, wall color and even apparel – Tamara is able to realize her interior design vision while also enabling women in developing countries to create better lives for themselves and their communities. With negotiations already underway in India, her goal is to have the Tamara Magel Home, Inc. product line produced by small, family-owned businesses run by women artisans. In realizing her dream to impact society through design, Tamara has helped women all over the world to realize their own potential. Tamara Magel received her BS from Boston University’s School of Management in 1990, and a degree in Interior Design from the Corcoran School of Art in 1997.
